Follow the new-player experience offered to your character. Learn your first abilities, get comfortable with the controls, and use your quest journal to keep track of the campaign.

Set up your character

Blizzard’s starter guide introduces Exile’s Reach as the starting adventure for new players, followed by Dragonflight. Account history and game updates can affect what your character is offered, so follow the quest in your own journal.

  • Choose a class whose theme you enjoy. You can try another before committing.
  • Put your main attack, movement ability and defensive ability on comfortable keys.
  • Read each new ability when it unlocks, then try it on a manageable enemy.

Follow one campaign

For your first playthrough, stick with the campaign you have started. Switching between route guides can leave you spending more time working out where to go than playing.

  • Track your current campaign quest before leaving a hub.
  • Finish nearby objectives together to cut down on backtracking.
  • Take a moment to read a new system when the game introduces it.

When you get stuck

Read the full quest text and check its map marker before travelling farther. If combat feels difficult, pull fewer enemies and practise using your defensive abilities. Take the time you need to learn them.
